Features

Leveling

Members earn XP for talking and, if you switch it on, for time in voice. Levels can hand out roles, and every number is adjustable in Dashboard → Leveling.

XP for messages

  • A message earns 15 to 25 XP, at most once every 60 seconds per member, so spamming earns nothing extra.
  • Messages in a thread follow the rules of the channel the thread belongs to. Bots earn nothing, and a message automod deletes earns nothing.

Multipliers

Give a channel a multiplier to make it worth more or less; set it to 0 to stop XP there entirely, which is what a counting or bot-commands channel wants. Give a role a multiplier to boost the members who hold it. When someone has several boosted roles only the best one counts, and the channel and role multipliers are applied together.

The level curve

Going from level L to the next costs 100 + 50·L + 5·L² XP by default, so each level takes a little longer than the last. All three numbers are adjustable.

LevelTotal XPMessages, roughly
1100≈ 5
51,150≈ 58
104,675≈ 234
2023,850≈ 1,193
3067,525≈ 3,376
50268,375≈ 13,419

Role rewards and level-up posts

  • Map levels to roles in Dashboard → Leveling. A member who reaches the level gets the role.
  • With keep only the highest reward on (the default), reaching a new tier removes the one below, so someone at level 30 does not wear four badges at once. Jumping several tiers at once, such as after /xp add, gives only the top one.
  • Pick a level-up channel to announce level-ups there, in the server’s language. Without one, levels go up silently.

What a level is worth

Levels are not only a badge: every level adds 2% to what a member earns, up to 50% at level 25 by default (Dashboard → Leveling).

  • It applies to /work, /hustle and /crime (in Discord and at the game terminal), to the /daily streak amount, to chat rewards, and to what a farm’s produce sells for.
  • Not to games: a bonus on a stake the player chose would invert the house edge, and at +50% a coin flip would return 150 on a 100 bet forever. Not to fines or robbery losses either — the bonus is for what you earn, not for what you lose. Feed is left out of the farm side, because it is the one thing a player can both buy and sell.
  • Wherever it applies it says so: a payout reads “+8% for your level”, /rank leads with the bonus and where it stops, /daily says what the level added, and the farm card quotes what the sale will actually pay.

Voice XP

Off by default. When on, members earn 2 XP per minute in a voice channel, paid when they leave. A session counts from 2 to 120 minutes. Time spent deafened or in the server’s AFK channel does not count, and multipliers do not apply to voice. A level reached in voice hands out its reward role exactly as one reached by talking does.

Chat money

Off by default. When on, a message that earned XP also pays 1 to 3 into cash, at most once every 300 seconds per member.

Seeing levels

/rank shows a card with a member’s level, progress bar, total XP, message count and board position. /levels is the leaderboard. Admins adjust XP with /xp add (which hands out rewards like normal XP) and /xp set.

Reward roles must sit below Guaca’s own role, or Discord refuses to give them. See role order.
